Campus Student Worker - Library

Position Summary:

Performs various basic administrative tasks related to the Library; organizes, prioritizes, and completes tasks in a timely manner; check library materials in and out, answers basic reference and research questions, shelves library materials in LC call number order, performs circulation duties, provides excellent customer service to Library patrons, and helps to process new Library materials.

Key Job Elements:

  1. Be available to assist patrons proactively with patience and courteous customer service (AiTA students, faculty, staff ) both at the circulation desk and over the phone with:
    1. Checking materials in and out
    2. Basic reference assistance using Library catalog, Library database resources and locating materials on the shelves

2. Assist patrons with basic information regarding photocopies, printer, scanners and computers as well as submitting Helpdesk ticket via email when Supervisor or Director is not present.

3.Re-shelve materials in a timely, accurate manner (by the end of your shift) and assist in shelf reading according to LC call number sequence.

4.Assist in processing (preparing them for library use – labeling, stamping, security stickers etc.) magazines, books, CDs, and DVDs accurately.

5. Perform Library Rounds: shelving, check for litter in learning commons, straighten tables and chairs, check and fill paper in printer.

6.Maintain Library Lost & Found.

7.Enforce library policies where applicable.

8. Perform opening/closing Library duties include:

  • Opening: Open doors on time (see designated Library hours), login into Patron and Circulation desk computers-bring up library systems, ensure paper is full in both library printers, and shelve Library materials.
  • Closing: Begin Closing announcement-by turning off ½ of the Library overhead lights at 15mins prior to closing, verbally announce to patrons Library is closing at 5mins prior to closing, log off all computers, collect and shelve library materials, straighten chairs and tables, clean up litter around tables and computers, refill printer/copier with paper, clear library and computer areas of all patrons and secure doors on time (see designated Library hours) and turn in all badges and cell phones to security guard.

9.Work on special projects and assist the Librarian and Library Director with other tasks as needed.

10. Responsible for submitting their library work hours on time in company payroll TimeCo system.

  • Student worker’s job performance will be reviewed quarterly.

Evaluation Procedures/ Schedule:

The student will meet with their Supervisor on a weekly basis to discuss upcoming job duties as well as their current performance evaluation. Supervisors will evaluate the Student Worker in terms of professionalism, teamwork, and ability to successfully complete tasks in the required time frame.
